Travelling on a Budget
If you are short of cash this year, but still want to get away to the sun, sand, snow or forests; why not have a look at the money saving and budgeting tips below?
Always set a budget before you even look at the websites or in the travel agents! If you are setting off to find a specific holiday you want to go on, make sure you have a realistic budget and also that you stick to it!
Searching for your holiday on the internet can be cheaper, especially if you want to book in advance. However, if you dont mind waiting until the last minute to book your holiday, the travel agents offer some great bargains.
If you book your flights and accommodation together it normally makes it cheaper! And booking flights early in the morning are normally much cheaper, and sometimes the saving will mean that you can stay at a hotel near the airport the night before!
When thinking about your budget take into consideration travelling costs such as to and from the airport both here and on holiday.
Other things you need to think about when considering your budget: food while youre there and at the airport, postcards and stamps, travel whilst you are there such as buses, boats and trams. You may also need to consider other hidden costs such as waiter/ress(es) tips, use of a safe in your room, the mini bar and any souvenirs you may want to buy.
Why not think about going somewhere closer to home, even holidays to France and Spain can be cheaper all year round than going further a field and youll still have as much fun in the sun!
Great ways to save money whilst you are there: Buy a travel card or pass if you are going to use public transport a lot it saves money!
When it comes to food make sure you search around for the cheapest places to eat as well as seeing what you can rustle up from things you find in the supermarket even if its just for lunch!
Drink soft drinks during the day, instead of alcoholic ones it will make you feel better and save money too!
Buy smaller souvenirs to take home you will have forgotten about the straw donkey before too long! Buy pieces that you will use and keep such as jewellery.
Make sure you keep your money safe in a secure bag or belt its more than budgeting to lose all of your money at once!
