Default Cyprus

I love Cyprus and Paphos in particular. There is plenty to do in Cyprus, especially is you hire a car to travel around the whole of Cyprus.

Paphos boasts many archaeological sites, but walking around in the day can get very hot. Our solution for this was to get up fairly early to enjoy the attractions and rest in the afternoon when it gets really hot.

Cyprus is certainly addictive - once you have been you want to go back. The beaches that are situated outside the towns are deserted and you can also accidentally come across these tiny fishing villages where you never seem to see anyone.

Paphos provides some brilliant places to eat, and the food is really nice. The Cypriots provide a homely service as well as some really nice food that is traditional. However, if you are wanting your traditional English food you will have to go to Aya Napa. I prefer to taste the local foods, as this is part of the holiday experience.

Paphos also has many shops, including many English shops and a large supermarket. We found that we could get the bus into town from our apartments, which was great for carrying back any heavy groceries. I especially recommend buying bottled water - and this is very heavy to carry back.

Aya Napa is far more commercialised than Paphos, but if you hire a car you can find many deserted beaches there too. However, one tip of advice - do not go too close to the Turkish border, as the Turkish army may approach you. At the beaches however, you can find the most peaceful silence, as well as gorgeous sea and sand.

You can also come across some small gems whilst wandering or driving about, and we we came across a tiny church right in the middle of nowhere and in some of the towns the churches are very ornate, and are well worth a look.

The most gorgeous sites include the mosaics and the Odeon. The walk around the lighthouse along the beach towards the Odeon is lovely but make sure to take a bottle of water as you will need it.

Cyprus is perfect, and on any holiday you can enjoy the Cypriot hospitality, history and also the countryside.
