Consumers who are jetting off on holiday have so many options. Package holidays are still really popular with many people, but dynamic packages and DIY holidays have changed thd travel industry. This means that there are now many more options and opportunities to travel to more exotic places and do exactly what you want to do on holiday.
I love travelling, and these new options give light to a whole new world where travelling is endless. Although I have only visited a few destinations, I have always made sure that I didn't just do the normal holiday sites - its far more exciting that way! This is why making your own decisions and taking the more unusual routes are the roots of why i love travelling, here is why: Meeting new people Meeting new people in everyday situations is the ideal way to experience the culture of the place you are visiting. Their mannerisms and attitude can tell you a lot about a place, and they are often interested in you once they know that you come from England. Trying the local delicacies I don't like seeing people who just eat fish and chips and pie and mash on a holiday abroad. I love to try some of the local delicacies, such as dried fish (bacalhau) in Portugal and the cakes and desserts that they have on offer. The atmosphere of travelling The buzz of travelling begins from when you set off from your house. The build up to the airport, the flight and the trip to your hotel are really exciting. Descovering a place for the first time also give you a great feeling. Learning new languages The local people of the area always appreciate those who have bothered to learn some of their language, its really courtesy. I love to learn some useful phrases, which most natives normally laugh at (I think they are being nice, or just find my English accent hilarious!) Finding exciting attractions When I plan a trip I read the guidebook thoroughly and get an idea of where i want to visit on holiday. The guidbooks make places and attractions look and sound very factual, and the excitment is actually visiting the place itself. The memories Memories are most important - as you can keep these forever. I always take my video camera with me, and make a short video of my experiences and my other travellers. I recently did this and edited it when I got back - with music and graphics family and friends don't mind looking at your reminiscent video and pictures as much! ![]() Last edited by Kate : 04-02-2008 at 03:00 PM. |

I really agree with you Kate! Here are a few more reasons why someone loves to travel....
I really like absorbing the culture, and observing the different mannerisms of certain countries. Different countries do almost everything in a different way - from food, clothes, language, opinions, signs, and shopping! I also love picking up something that reminds me of the place I have visited. Not necessarily the tourist-led tea towels and mugs with landscapes and place names. But the items that people in the country would actually own, such as olives dishes, jewellery or clothes. Doing what the locals do is another important thing for me on holiday. If its normal to sit beside the road and drink beer I will try it! I also enjoy looking round the local supermarket to see what products are available and how they differ to what we eat back home! As well as looking at the food I love trying out traditional dishes, especially those that are most popular with the locals. Whether that be grilled fish or a big steak - i love to try new foods. When I get home I really enjoy reminiscing about my travels - with my purchases, photographs and videos. I also like to keep all my tickets, spare coins, postcards etc to put into a small scrap book about my travels. |
