Default Stress-free travel - does it exist?

Travel appears to have started to become more and more stressful. So why do so many companies insist on telling us that their stress-free travel option is the best?

Trains, planes and motorways appear constantly delayed, and more crowded. The length of these delays are causing more stress to customers.

Airports are also making travelling a more stressful experience with the introduction of fingerprinting technology, tougher security, and long check-in times before departure.

Travel companies going into administration, badly trained travel agents, and the increase in flight prices all add to the stress. Or do you have more positive, stress-free experiences?

Default I don't think it does...

I have recently moved away from my home town, and so have been using the train a lot more to travel. I haven't known one train journey where my train has not been delayed, I am sat next to someone noisy or where there has not been limitless amounts of rubbish everywhere.

Thankfully I am quite an upbeat person, and I can sometimes laugh this off. But there was one train journey that was not funny, and it did make me stressed.

I was travelling back to York from Cambridge, and after completing my short local journey I had to set off from Peterborough. The train was perfectly ontime, but there was another train that was stopped at another platform, and had been there for about 20minutes. As soon as our train arrived, all these people were also instructed to board our train.

We were squashed in the vestibule areas, and had to stand for the one and a half hour journey, which we had reserved seats for. I know they couldn't help it that the other train had broken down, but they should have thought of the consequences of putting twice the amount of people onto one train.

I have also had bad experiences with some plane flights...I don't think I can remember a flight that was not delayed, but thats another story.
