The UK or abroad?
I come from a family who took holidays in the UK every first and second year and then a holiday abroad in the third year. So I think I am biased in saying that both are equally as good, and that you can enjoy yourself just as much either in the UK or abroad.
The UK offers some great history and heritage, and from living in the UK it is really important to know all about its history! It also offers some of the most stunning coastline and picturesque views as well as some great cities packed with museums, shops, bars and nightlife.
The Lake District is an ideal place in which to spend a week or two. There are some gorgeous views, walks, museums, as well as some some exciting activities on and off the water. I spent my honeymoon nestled in Grizdale Forest, and although we didn't have sandy beaches we enjoyed longs walks, museums and the Go Ape adventure course!
Northumberland is also a perfect place for family holidays, as well as more relaxing breaks. Close by is Newscastle, which is perfect for shopping. Northumberland also has some ideal walks, museums, historical sites and the famous Hadrian's wall. Going here on bank holidays is an ideal way to find lots of events along the wall. Also, do not miss Beamish - a constructed living museum of the early 20th century.
Going abroad however, provides similar draws, with sightseeing to be done, as well as a whole new culture to explore. Depending on where you are going, you may find some huge cultural differences, as well as new languages and sun,sea and sand.
The sun is the biggest positive for me on a holiday abroad, as it makes me much happier. However, I also love to explore the culture by eating, drinking and doing what the locals do. I also like to find out about the history of the place I am visiting.
Both the UK and abroad provide excellent holidays, especially for families, although with online prices becoming cheaper, both are affordable for families now.
