Default The English Riviera

When the weather gets warm, thousands of holidaymakers flock to what is known as the English Riviera to sample the great food, superb beaches and the surfing. B&B and Restaurants, have had to put our their no vacancy signs and tourist attractions have received record visitors.

Record visitors to Cornwall

Tourism accounts for 25% of the Cornish economy, compared to 4% in the rest of the country, but back in the 1980s visitor numbers in Cornwall were very low, because people were put off by the weather, poor food and service, and many British holidaymakers people choose to go abroad for their summer holidays.

So why are people flocking to Cornwall..

On my visits to Cornwall I have visited some of the many outstanding heritage sites. These have recently been recognised internationally by UNESCO through their designation of World Heritage Site status to select mining landscapes across Cornwall and west Devon.

Cornwall is also one of Europe’s top surfing destinations, with a variety of reef breaks and beach breaks scattered along both the north and south coasts, there is a wave for all weather conditions and for every level of surfer.

Cornwall is also home to the The Minack Theatre - the only venue in the world where you might see dolphins in a Shakespeare Play. And this is obviously worth a visit! From a natural amphitheatre carved into Porthcurno’s staggering cliffs, the stage drops straight into the Atlantic - an amazing backdrop to any performance.

If your not into travelling abroad, or maybe your from the US or another European destination, then I can personally recommend Cornwall to you, so relax on the beach, and take in what Cornwall has to offer tourists.
