Not sure where to go on holiday – have a look at some of the Best City Break Destinations!
Prague ![]() Prague is one of the most popular City Break destinations, but has only become so quite recently. The historical city centre is an attraction in itself, with much to see and do also. There are many museums and galleries and many of the ancient buildings are a must see. The heart of the city is known as the Castle District, where you can see the imposing castle. The east and the west of the city are also joined by the famous Charles Bridge, one of the must see structures of the city. The city itself has a varied and rich history that is well worth exploring, and many cultural attractions to see. Venice ![]() Famed as one of the most romantic cities in Europe, Venice is renowned for its city breaks. The busy, narrow streets and waterways are full of life and culture, and the historical architecture is also worth looking at. The Grand Canal is the man thoroughfare and it is on here that you are able to take a world-famous gondola through the city. The city itself is split into quarters; Santa Croce, Castello, San Marco, San Polo, Cannaregio and Dorsoduro, which all have the blend of charming and historical buildings. Paris ![]() Paris is another city famed for its romanticism and also for its city breaks. It is a city that never stops, with cultural events, activities and many other attractions available. Short city breaks within the summer months are ideal, although city breaks all year round are perfect for a romantic getaway. You can spend many days relaxing on the banks of the Seine River or strolling through the many parks of Paris. However, if you want to do more than relax, Paris offers many world-famous attractions. The Eiffel Tower is the most famous, as well as the Arch de Triumph, The Louvre and The Sacré Coeur. Berlin ![]() Berlin is not your typical city break, but it provides a wealth of culture, shopping and history. Since the Berlin wall was pulled down in 1990 the city has been rejuvenated. It is now a jungle of skyscrapers and modern buildings, and has a large variety of galleries, theatres and museums. It is the perfect place to soak up the culture and history of Germany, as well as enjoying the many parades and festivals that take place annually. Amsterdam ![]() Amsterdam is one of the liveliest cities in which you can take a city break. With street performers and busy trams, Amsterdam is thriving with activity. Dam Square is the central point of the city, with the bustling streets branching off, which are lined with the traditional Dutch houses. Down these cobbled streets you can also find many charming shops that sell clogs and Delft China. As well as viewing the city on foot, you can also take a river cruiser down the many waterways, which is an ideal way to see the city. As well as the buildings themselves there are many art galleries, theatres and museums to explore. The most famous of these are Anne Frank’s House and the Van Gough Museum. |

I really recommend Amsterdam for a short break or longer! It has everything you could want from a city break destination, with something for every age and taste.
The museums and attractions provide the culture and the history of the area, and Anne Frank's Huis is a thought-provoking display not to be missed. You can also take a trip down the waterways and look at the sights from the water. However, if you want to relax on your city break, there are many places to indulge yourself. From the famous Hard Rock Cafe to the quiet restaurants and the famous pancake house - we found food to suit our needs! There are also many quiet coffee houses, where the locals and visitors sit and watch the world go by. The relaxed daytime gives way to the lively nightlife that is to be found within the streets of Amsterdam. From bars to nightclubs there is something here for those who want a drink to those who want to dance the night away. As well as so much to see and do the culture in Amsterdam is amazing - the trams, tulips and clogs remind you of the past eras as do the Dutch houses that are crowded along the river. Its a really great place to visit! Last edited by Kate : 01-10-2008 at 11:47 AM. |

I would also highly recommend Amsterdam for a city break. I've lived in Amsterdam for a while and the city center is absolutely buzzing with activity. There are some beautiful sights to visit, some really good museums, architecture and a really rich culture.
If you are in Amsterdam for a longer period of time, it has an excellent train connection to Utrecht and Rotterdam which are also more then worth visiting.
