Default Barcelona or Madrid?

After recently having a conversation with a collegue, I have come to find that there is a compromise between the two gorgeous cities or Barcelon and Madrid. Both, I am told, are equally beautiful, but are also unique in their own ways.

Barcelona appears to have much art and architecture, possibly more culture, and Madrid is perfect for shopping. But, are there any other comparisons that may help to determine which place would be best for a city break in Spain? I feel that Barcelona may be best for someone, like me, who hasn't been to Spain before, but I was wanting some advice to help me to decide.... Thanks!

Lightbulb Barcelona AND Madrid

I recently asked which city was better for a great City Break. However, I think I may have found a solution to the question! There was an unveiling of a new high-speed train line in February that runs between Madrid and Barcelona.

I think would be the perfect solution for those who want to combine these city breaks, and get the best of both cities. I'm not sure how long the train takes, but since it is high-speed I am guessing it isn't that long. It may be a great solution, and if I try it out I will let you know!

I think you need to see both of these stunning cities. Although Barcelona is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, Madrid has many cultural and artistic sights.

Both offer something different, and there is no comparison between the two. Although Barcelona does offer some stunning beaches close-by.

I think the high-speed train sounds fantastic, and perfect for being able to see both of these fantastic cities.

I have more attraction towards Madrid as it is my favourite city anywhere. But, I can really understand the appeals of Barcelona which is undoubtedly more attractive and a good city to eat in.Madrid is earthier and each area has something different to offer. The people too are different and I have found they just exude life and there is an energy that you cannot find anywhere else in the world let alone anywhere else in Spain.
