Madrid city breaks give any traveller a glimpse at the unique culture and art of Spain, as well as offering a large nightlife and an array of entertainment. This city does not boast the architecture that Barcelona is able to, but it makes up for this in vibrance and atmosphere.
Madrid has been the capital of Spain since 1952, and is located ideadlly on the Iberian Peninsula. With its large amount of art galleries and museums, Madrid has always been known as a major art city in Europe. Its art galleries and museums incluse the famous Museo del Prado, which holds many well-known Renaissance works. The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Sofia offers an exploration of 20th Century art, such as Picasso, Miro and Dali. The Museo Thyssn-Bornemiza also contains one of the largest art collections in the world.
However, if you do not have a passion for art, Madrid is also able to cater to many other visitors. Madrid holds Spain’s biggest bullring, the Plaza de Toros, which still holds regular bullfights. However, if you prefer less violent sports then football fans can enjoy watching Real Madrid or Atletico de Madrid play.
The city holds many vibrant cafes, restaurants and bars in which you can unwind and relax within the hot summer. Or, for those who arrive in the winter months, the modern city has many indoor activities to entertain its visitors.
